What next?

Last week we finally got our brand-spanking-new shiny Canadian visas in our passports. It was a magnificent day, and like many other expats in the same boat (on a forum we follow), I can't stop looking at it :0)

See, isn't it beautiful?

We have until 12 July this year to activate the visas, and then we have 3 years to get to Canada, or we loose it.

Now before I get too bloody excited about our move to Canada (which we planned for the end of Feb!), let me tell you about this little thing that happened just before we got our passports - sporting our sparkly visas (woo-hoo!) - back. You know that saying 'Crazy-ass things happen to crazy-ass people'?
No? OK well, maybe I just made it up, but never mind that because it is true!

Out of the blue, Mr Fluff gets told about an amazing job in Geneva, Switzerland. Just like that. His curiosity is aroused (because we've looked into Switzerland before) and he is asked to attend interview after interview. Now don't anyone get too excited yet, because this can all still go pear shaped. They want him, but we can still decline their offer. On Monday, Mr Fluff will be meeting with the powers that be in a very secret location somewhere in the Swiss Alps to discuss how they can take over the world. Fine, I made that up, but he IS meeting with them. On Monday. On Swiss soil.

So, this weekend we are heading to Geneva, the Swiss city which is almost entirely surrounded by France, and famous for that 'little' fountain, The Jet d'Eau in Lake Geneva or Lake Léman (French: Lac Léman, German: Genfersee), which shoots its water 140 meters in the air. Many a humble man have been known to envy that fountain. Or maybe not.

Geneva is also very cosmopolitan with people from all over the world working there, and it is beautiful. It kisses the tip of the lake which it shares with France, and the mountains are very close, but the bonus is that it gets WAY more sunshine than Blighty, and the weather in general is much, much better. Yay.

Our plan is to have a good look around and drive all over the place and get a bit of a feel for it. We'll also venture into France, as many people who work in Geneva choose to live in France. Clever peoples, innit? It is much cheaper to live across the border, and property in Geneva is so expensive you need a pots of gold to pay for it, and there is such a shortage of vacant properties, you'll have more luck in finding a chicken with canines that would make a vampire blush; or a bear that uses a long drop and three-ply to wipe his bits; or a monster octopus that likes candy floss and lives in the lake; than you would finding reasonably priced accommodation for two people, two whippets and a cat! It's brutal people. But don't worry, we will deal with it if we have to, no matter what.

I think we will have loads of fun this weekend. We've not had a break away for a very long time, so this will do us a lot of good. I will tell you all about the trip when we return.

I can't help but wonder where our little pebbly path will lead us come March.

Will we go here

or will we live here

or will we head here

Ooh, it's getting so exciting now! Riveting stuff, this! My tummy is alive with butterflies.
